Starting out as a research assistant for their faction in the Bremen city parliament, he later became a delegate and chaired the party’s parliamentary group from 1985 to 1989. He was elected co-chairman of the Green Party’s national executive committee in 1989/90. In 2007 Dr. Höppe has been appointed member of the Global Warming Advisory Board of the Bavarian State Government and Chair of the “Finance-Forum: Climate Change” of the high-tech Strategy of the German Federal Government. - Shimpei Yamashita is a Manager in the Strategic Business Investment Department at Sumitomo Corporation, a diversified global trading and investing company based in Tokyo. Since joining Sumitomo in 2006, he has made cleantech venture investments worldwide as a part of Sumitomo’s strategic effort to create new businesses in the cleantech industries. His current focus areas include photovoltaics, fuel cells, rechargeable batteries, alternative fuels, and alternative lighting. He is currently a board observer for ACAL Energy, a British fuel cell startup, and was a board observer for Enax, a Japanese lithium-ion battery startup. Prior to joining Sumitomo, he worked at the Tokyo offices of Bain & Company and Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting.
