ONZO: Treating home energy like high finance
ONZO’s cloud-based analytics are powering into domestic energy markets. Emerging from the buzzing London tech scene in 2007, the company first focused on hardware, creating a clip-on power meter with wireless display. However, in 2012 the rapid roll out of smart meters led them to sell off the hardware business to Scottish utility SSE. Steven Daniels, one of the private equity investors, took the reins as CEO and the company re-started as a pure energy analytics company floating in the cloud.

Aaron Best and Franka Birke present the European startup accelerator Climate-KIC
Ecosummit TV: At Ecosummit Berlin 2013, Aaron Best and Franka Birke present Climate-KIC, the European initiative to foster cleantech entrepreneurship and education. Climate-KIC runs a startup accelerator that provides up to €95K, office space and coaching to young startups in Germany, UK, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands. They also organise master classes with famous startup gurus such as Steve Blank or Alexander Osterwalder. During the Climate-KIC session, Ingo Potthof (UnternehmerTUM Fund) interviewed Alexander Zosel (E-volo), Niels Beisinghoff (Bettertaxi), Philipp Pausder (Futurewatt), Philipp von Seherr-Thoss (Milk the Sun) and Martin Burkhardt (Boxtango). Sefaira, Tado, Solarbattery, Pirika, Bravo Motors and Oricane win Ecosummit Award 2013
Ecosummit Berlin 2013 was a blast. “The best event out there,” says Rene Savelsberg of Chrysalix SET. Rene was also very happy when he went on stage to receive the Ecosummit Award 2013 Jury Gold medal (€3K prize money) for his portfolio company Sefaira. The fast growing cleantech startup from UK/US convinced our 33 jury members with their smart green building software. Jury Silver (€2K prize money) went to Tado from Germany and their impressive smart green heating control and Jury Bronze (€1K prize money) was awarded to Sonnenbatterie from Germany for their successful residential energy storage solution.

Rolf Stein pitches waste to energy startup Advanced Plasma Power
Ecosummit TV: Waste is a resource. Rolf Stein pitches Advanced Plasma Power (APP) at Ecosummit Berlin 2012. The UK-based startup has an efficient gas plasma technology to convert waste to energy. APP was founded in 2005 as a spin-off from the British engineering company Tetronics. The outcomes of APP’s Gasplasma process are syngas (synthetic gas), which is rich in Hydrogen, and Plasmarok, a solid material which can be used for multiple applications, e.g. as building material.

Mads Jensen pitches Smart Green Building Software Startup Sefaira
Every city has to become a smart green city and every building should go smart green, too. Mads Jensen, Co-Founder and CEO, pitches Sefaira at ECO11.
