Icos Capital raises €50M IC Fund III from Akzo Nobel, Bühler, Wuppermann and City of Rotterdam
Corporates play an important role for startups and VCs and often combine direct and fund investments to get access to external innovation. After a 2-year fundraising journey that even included the bankruptcy of one LP, the Dutch VC Icos Capital announces today the first closing of its third fund Icos Capital Fund III at €50M. The fund investors comprise the City of Rotterdam and the corporates Akzo Nobel from the Netherlands, Bühler from Switzerland and Wuppermann from Germany. Peter van Gelderen, one of the 3 GPs managing the fund, describes their investment philosophy as collaborative corporate venturing and emphasizes the close cooperation with the 3 multinationals that don’t have inhouse corporate VC units. According to Peter, new corporate relationships take a lot of time and many meetings until the board makes an LP commitment in your VC fund.

Smart Green Business Networking at Ecosummit Lounge on 21 September 2011 in Berlin
We are happy to announce our first Ecosummit Lounge on 21 September 2011 in Berlin. Ecosummit Lounge takes place in the cool event location called HomeBase Potsdamer Platz. Ecosummit Lounge is a new event format we created to focus on Smart Green Business Networking in a laid-back atmosphere. From 18:00-24:00, we will enjoy a few short pitches from startups and sponsors and lots of healthy food, tasty red wine as well as funky jazz and electronic music. We will also preview Ecosummit 2012, our 3rd international Smart Green Business Conference. ECO12 features our new ECO12 Award that honours and rewards the best European smart green companies. Ingo Walterscheid presents Design City Kolding in Denmark
Every city should become a Smart Green City as soon as possible. One way to accelerate urban change is to focus ideas, people and capital in a new city quarter where the future can be prototyped by a cluster of companies and citizens that believe in sustainability, renewable energy, clean technologies and intelligent design. Kolding is such a future-minded Danish city with 90.000 citizens located in the south of Denmark, 100 km north of Flensburg. Design City Kolding is planned as a new sustainable city quarter on 22 hectares developed by Design City Vest A/S.

Sustainability in everything we do – Michael Bueltmann presents Nokia’s Sustainability Management
Sustainability in everything we do – that’s one of the key principles of Nokia’s Sustainability Management presented by Michael Bueltmann, Managing Director (Public & Legal Affairs) of Nokia Germany. Another green success factor is lifecycle thinking, i.e. measuring and optimising the product carbon footprint across the whole product lifecycle. This includes the management of recycling processes. Michael says the key problem is the laziness of consumers who prefer to keep old devices at home. Here’s my idea: Renting smartphones instead of selling them and offering a reward for returning the old device to upgrade to the new one. Easy device upgrading also accelerates the rollout of new innovations.
