Jörg Fabri analyses wind energy and recommends operational excellence

Ecosummit TV: The Energiewende, i.e. the transformation to a smart green energy system, is a massive challenge for the energy industry and the government. Globally, renewable energy attracts $200B investment per year to which wind energy contributes one third. In his talk at ECO12 Düsseldorf, Joerg Fabri of allocate, analyses how we can keep up the pace in the European wind energy sector if the level of subsidies further decreases.

In Germany, 25 GW of offshore wind power are planned until 2030 which equals an investment of €120B (€4.5M per MW). While onshore wind is mature, offshore wind is at the beginning of the learning curve. The further you go offshore, the more wind you have, but you also face higher CAPEX and OPEX. In fact, gaining operational excellence by minimising operating costs with a smart maintenance strategy has a huge impact on the bottom line. In stormy weathers you have to manage your wind assets well.
