Prior to joining Cisco he was a Principal at Booz Allen Hamilton where he had built and managed the European Smart Grid Practice and an Associate at A.T. Kearney. He holds a Masters Degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Eichstaett and a MBA from Webster University.

Before joining Gardena, Christoph was a consultant with McKinsey & Company. Out of McKinsey’s Hamburg office, he worked mainly with clients in the European consumer goods industries and left McKinsey as an Engagement Manager.     • Markus Becker is one of the founders and CEO of EcoIntense, Berlin. The business focus is on developing software solutions in the field of health, safety and environmental management. In 2006, Markus graduated from the University of Applied Sciences Berlin and received the master’s degree in Environmental Computing. He worked for Daimler in South Africa as a consultant and supported the establishing of a local environmental management system. In 2006, he managed the project of implementing a software system for the audit management of the Berliner Wasserbetriebe, the Berlin water supplier. In the following time, he co-developed a standard software solution for the corporate environmental protection. In August 2007, he founded the EcoIntense GmbH. Since then, he is CEO and Head of Sales and Marketing.

    • Carl Berninghausen is one of the founders and CEO of SunFire, a startup developing a technology to produce renewable fuels from CO2, H2O, and renewable energy. Prior to founding SunFire, Carl was head of Steinbruegge+Berninghausen GmbH, a German company in the wood processing industry. After successfully managing the turn-around of the family-owned business, he founded a framehouse production company called Karibu GmbH, soon becoming market leader in Germany. Carl sold Karibu in 2007 and began investing into Cleantech companies via the newly found bw-energiesysteme GmbH. His educational background is in business administration at the European Business School (Oestrich-Winkel) and in economics at the University of Frankfurt.

    • Professor Dr. Michael Braungart is founder and scientific director of EPEA Environmental Protection and Encouragement Agency in Hamburg, Germany. He also is co-founder and managing director of McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBCD) in Charlottesville, Virginia (USA) and scientific director of the Hamburger Umweltinstitut (HUI, “environment institute”). Together with the American architect William McDonough he developed the Cradle to Cradle®-concept. Braugart studied Chemistry and Process Engineering in Konstanz and Darmstadt (Germany). EPEA was founded in 1987. Since that time, Michael Braungart dedicates his life to the research of and consultation for eco-effective products. Since 1994 he teaches as professor of Process Engineering at the University of Lüneburg and is head of an interdisciplinary program which does research of material flows. In 2002 he accepted a visiting professorship at the Darden School of Business (Virginia, USA), lecturing on topics such as eco-efficiency and eco-effectiveness, Cradle to Cradle®-design and intelligent materials pooling. Since 2008 he additionally teaches at the Dutch Research Institute for Transitions (DRIFT) of the Erasmus University of Rotterdam – where a chair of Cradle to Cradle® had newly been established.

    • Ralf Fücks studied social science, economics, and history in Heidelberg and Bremen. After graduation he worked as a visiting lecturer at the University of Bremen and as an instructor in adult education. He co-founded the magazine Moderne Zeiten (Modern Times) in 1980 and worked there as an editor. Fücks joined the German Green Party in 1982. Starting out as a research assistant for their faction in the Bremen city parliament, he later became a delegate and chaired the party’s parliamentary group from 1985 to 1989. He was elected co-chairman of the Green Party’s national executive committee in 1989/90. In 1991, he returned to Bremen politics and became Senator for Urban Development and Environmental Protection, as well as the second mayor in the Bremen “traffic light” coalition: the first coalition of Social Democrats (red), Free Democratic Party members (yellow) and Greens to be formed in West Germany. Fücks has been the director of the Heinrich Böll Foundation since 1996. He is in charge of the Foundation’s domestic work, as well as foreign and security policy and Europe and North America. He also supervises the Grüne Akademie (Green Academy) scholarship program, a think tank of researchers and policymakers. Fücks has published on the subjects of ecology and economics, political strategy, Europe and international politics in Germany’s larger daily and weekly newspapers, in international political journals and on the Internet.

After his studies he joined the management consultancy “amontis consulting AG” in Heidelberg. From 1997 to 1999, he was a researcher at the Universities of Mannheim and Oulu (Finland) for research work about knowledge-intensive business companies and innovation policy. In the year 2000, he took care of Greenpeace’s programmes on eco tax and energy policy in Bonn and Berlin. Since 2001, he is managing director of the green energy supplier Greenpeace Energy eG. In that position, he has also been executive director of several daughter companies created for the construction of wind, hydro and solar power stations. With more than 95.000 customers the cooperative Greenpeace Energy eG is one of the biggest independent suppliers for green electricity in Germany. The company was founded in 1999 after the inspiring idea of Greenpeace and is owned by around 20.000 members.

    • After receiving his Diploma in Political Science, Michael Winter headed Corporate Communications and Corporate Development for an internationally respected medical technology company. He then moved on to become Senior Consultant at a leading communications consultancy in the field of CR and sustainability. In this capacity he lead numerous reporting projects from conception to delivery, whilst specialising in CR Strategy and Management consultancy. In 2002 he founded Stakeholder Reporting GmbH, undertaking large-scale reporting projects right from the outset for major German and international corporate groups.     • Shimpei Yamashita is a Manager in the Strategic Business Investment Department at Sumitomo Corporation, a diversified global trading and investing company based in Tokyo. Since joining Sumitomo in 2006, he has made cleantech venture investments worldwide as a part of Sumitomo’s strategic effort to create new businesses in the cleantech industries. His current focus areas include photovoltaics, fuel cells, rechargeable batteries, alternative fuels, and alternative lighting. He is currently a board observer for ACAL Energy, a British fuel cell startup, and was a board observer for Enax, a Japanese lithium-ion battery startup. Prior to joining Sumitomo, he worked at the Tokyo offices of Bain & Company and Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting.
