At the same time, Ecosummit Advisors get special access to our executive community to foster pan-European cooperation. Together we work on the future of smart green innovation.     • Based in our Zurich office, Gina Domanig is the Managing Partner of Emerald Technology Ventures. In 2000 she founded Emerald as the first independent cleantech venture capital fund in Europe. Gina currently serves on the boards of Pelamis, SDC Materials, Synapsense and TaKaDu. Previously, she also represented Emerald as a director at Agraquest (acquired by Bayer in 2012) and Inge Watertechnologies (acquired by BASF in 2011). Gina has over 25 years of international business experience including banking, M&A, strategic development and venture capital. Prior to starting Emerald, she was senior vice president at Sulzer, a Swiss multinational, responsible for strategic planning and M&A. Gina holds MBA degrees from Thunderbird in Arizona and ESADE in Barcelona and is fluent in English, German and Spanish.

    • Alois Flatz is a Venture Partner with 20 years’ experience in private equity, investment management and sustainability. He is a member of the boards of va-Q-tec and The Mobility House. Before joining Zouk, Alois was a Partner and Head of Research at Sustainable Asset Management in Zurich, where he co-founded the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Alois was also Managing Partner of BTS Investment Advisors, a private equity advisor in India with over $3 billion AUM, and an advisor to the Austrian Ministry of the Environment. A published author on sustainable investment, Alois has a PhD in Business Administration from the University of St. Gallen, an MBA from Vienna University of Economics and studied International Management at HEC.

    • Apart from being a veteran VC, Bart is a seasoned and passionate entrepreneur and is renowned for his relentless drive to internationalise companies and help them become successful beyond Europe by conquering the US or Asia. A Dutch native, he has been a General Partner at Wellington from 2000 to 2015. Bart has invested in an impressive collection of deep IP Technology companies located in Europe and the US. Many have already made the successful leap to the US or are successfully opening up new foreign markets. Investments include Navteq (NASDAQ IPO in 2004: NVT; sold to Nokia in 2007), Meiosys (sold to IBM in 2005), Nawotec (sold to Carl Zeiss in 2005), Q-Layer (sold to Sun Microsystems in 2009), Cavendish Kinetics and GLO. Prior to the past 17 years which he has spent as an investor in high-tech companies, Bart co-founded three companies including the MRI Centre, now a highly successful chain of private medical diagnostic clinics. He also set up and acted as CEO for ePearle, a pan-European B2B eCommerce startup. Before Wellington, Bart was an investment professional at HAL Investments and an Associate at McKinsey, working in Holland and South Africa. He started his career as a process control system and project engineer with Shell in Norway. Bart holds an MSc in Applied Physics from Twente University of Technology in the Netherlands and an MBA (with distinction) from INSEAD in France.

    • Henrik is the Managing Partner at ETF. In addition to managing the firm day-to-day, he focuses on new investments and represents ETF on the Boards of Chemrec, Kebony, Perpetuum and Elstat. Prior to founding ETF, Henrik spent 13 years at GE. Most recently he was a Managing Director of GE Equity, General Electric’s private equity business, where he successfully invested in high growth businesses across Europe since 1996. Previously, he worked for a number of different industrial businesses within GE, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions as well as post-merger integration and operational management. Henrik is a Swedish national and has an MBA from the Stockholm School of Economics, which included a scholarship exchange with the New York University Stern School of business. He is the chairman of the European Advisory Board of the Cleantech Group.

    • Rene Savelsberg is co-founder, CEO and Managing Director of SET Ventures since 2007. He is responsible for the strategy and overall operations of the SET Funds. His focus is on companies in the areas of smart grid, energy efficiency, transportation and infrastructure. He serves on the Board of Sefaira and is observer on the Boards of Alertme.com, General Fusion and MicroShade. He also served on the Board of Epyon which was acquired by ABB in June 2011. Between 1997 and 2004 Rene led the Philips Corporate Venturing activities, initially in Silicon Valley and later expanding into Europe and Israel, managing investments in over 40 companies. After Philips decided to depart from its corporate VC involvement Rene successfully divested the portfolio by the end of 2004. In the meantime, he joined Philips’ Corporate M&A department where he was also responsible for semiconductor-related transactions and was instrumental in the €6.4 billion divestment of the Philips Semiconductor Division, now called NXP. Prior to (re)joining Philips Rene worked during 5 years for the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency, the economic development agency of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. Rene Savelsberg holds a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering & Management from the Technical University Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

    • Fabienne Herlaut graduated from Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Paris and holds a Master degree from Harvard Business School. After graduation, she joins Bain and Co. in the Boston and Paris offices. From 1990 until 2001, she joins Harwanne, a family office with investments in industry (mining, packaging, electronics), banking and real estate and listed in Paris and Geneva. As General Manager, she is in charge of managing the portfolio of participations (M&A) and supervising the operational performance. In 10 years, she increased the value of the holding 5 times. In 2001, she joins Pechiney as Head of Corporate Strategy and following the Alcan takeover, co-leads the integration between Alcan and Pechiney. In 2005, she joins ArcelorMittal, Flat Carbon Steel division, in charge of business development and partnerships. In 2007, she joins SNCF as head of Corporate Strategy and Sustainable Development, member of the Executive Committee. In 2008, she launches Ecomobilité Partenaires, SNCF Corporate Venture fund dedicated to sustainable development with €15M equity and investments in six companies. In November 2011, Fabienne Herlaut leaves SNCF to create Eclaircile Gestion, in charge of managing Ecomobilité Ventures, the newly created €30M multi-corporate (SNCF, Orange, Total, PSA) venture fund, dedicated to sustainable mobility. EMV realised 6 investments in Europe and US and Air Liquid joined the fund as a new investor. In 2014, she left Ecomobilité Ventures to start her own business and provide diversified services to entrepreneurs and startups. She is also a senior advisor at E&Y.

    • Peter van Gelderen is one of the founding Managing Partners at Icos Capital, a leading European cleantech investor with offices in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Munich. He is responsible for the overall investment strategy of Icos Capital and a board member in five Icos portfolio companies. Icos Capital developed a unique collaborative corporate venturing model with cornerstone investors that are actively involved in energy, water and bio-based chemicals markets. Before co-founding Icos Capital, Peter worked as a strategy consultant at Deloitte, focusing on energy, recycling, water and technology markets. He advised globally active corporations on expansion strategy, mergers and acquisitions and joint-venture deals. In this capacity, he contributed substantially to the revision of the business strategy of several of these companies in response to new market developments such as technology innovation and renewable energy. He also advised the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs on innovation policy. Peter started his career in the Philips Research Laboratories, where he was involved in nanotechnology and new materials research and development. He received a PhD in theoretical physics from Nijmegen University and is a frequent speaker on cleantech investing, innovative technology developments and sustainability.

    • Tim is a senior manager with a special focus on cleantech and renewable energies. He has more than 15 years of international experience in B2B business at industrial corporations, banks and venture capital funds. Tim joined Electranova Capital (Idinvest Partners) as Venture Partner in 2013. In this role he concentrates on the German-speaking countries. Since 2012 Tim is Head of Projects at Siemens, Energy Sector, in the renewable energies arena. Prior to that he was Head of the Business Unit Ground Mounted Systems at Gehrlicher Solar and held various senior management positions at UniCredit and HypoVereinsbank (HVB), Corporate & Investment Banking, and served as Managing Director of the Venture Capital Fund HVB Life Science. Before he acted in different positions at Swiss Re, Mercer Management Consulting, EUREKA and GSF – National Research Center for Environment and Health. Tim studied chemistry and environmental chemistry at the universities of Bonn, Edinburgh and Freiburg i.Br. and holds a PhD in natural sciences from the Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich. His doctoral thesis and scientific work was honoured with several prizes and scholarships.     • Alexander joined Paris-based venture capital firm Aster Capital in 2009 and is leading investments in the areas of energy conversion and storage. Prior to Aster, he headed Global Strategy & Business Development for Alstom’s €5 billion Thermal Services business. Earlier, Alexander was Managing Director at ABB in Egypt, responsible for a business unit active in EPC contracting and services for utility and industrial power plants. In 15 years at Alstom and ABB, Alexander closed over 20 M&A deals and created several joint ventures and new businesses. He holds a BA from the University of Applied Sciences in St. Gallen and a Masters in Finance (MSc) from London Business School. Before his involvement with Agnion, Martin Kröner worked for Linde, the global leader in technical gases and one of the most profitable plant engineering companies. Prior to working for Linde, Martin Kröner built up Thermotec Engineering Services, a spin-off from the Technische Universität München. Martin Kröner is a mechanical engineer with a PhD in Thermodynamics and Combustion Research from the Technische Universität München.

He previously founded and was Managing Director of Cleantech Scandinavia, which was and continues to be the leading provider of cleantech dealflow in the Nordics.     • Tom Schulz is co-founder and managing director of the AQAL group of holding and investment companies. AQAL is a Munich-based, exponential-tech holding company that performs direct investments across multiple stages of a startup’s investment needs, ranging from early to growth stage. Its objective is to create successful and integrally sustainable (people, planet, profit) companies from the very beginning. Recently, Tom was co-founder and COO of Entelios AG, Germany’s first nationwide Demand Response Aggregator. In February 2014, Entelios was sold to and became a 100 percent subsidiary of the worldwide market leader EnerNOC. Tom was also a co-founder of the San Francisco–based Cleantech Circle, a group of serial entrepreneurs and investors with a passion for Cleantech. In 1995, Tom co-founded the first publicly traded, nationwide Internet service provider in Germany, Cybernet AG, where he served on the executive management board. After going public with Cybernet, he became an angel investor with the Munich Business Angel Network. Later he was an active investor with The Angels’ Forum, an investor group in Palo Alto that also manages the Halo Funds. Earlier in his career, Tom worked at the Western Research Lab of Digital Equipment Corporation in Palo Alto on computer languages and on artificial intelligence and multimedia projects at Apple Computer in Germany. Later, he became a strategy consultant with The Boston Consulting Group at their Munich and San Francisco offices. Tom earned an MBA from Stanford University and studied Computer Science at the ETH Zurich and KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), where he received the degree of Diplom-Informatiker.

From 2007 to 2012 he was a Partner at Matrix where he led the Extel number 1 rated research team and advised clean tech companies on fund raising and M&A. He has published extensively on energy efficiency including two books.     • Knut Hechtfischer is one of ubitricity’s founders and managing directors. Knut completed a bank traineeship and holds university degrees in both law and business administration (MBA equivalent). He then joined leading international law firms in London, Frankfurt and Berlin, advising national and international clients in Regulatory, Acquisition Finance and Renewable Energy related projects. Working as an attorney during the day, Knut’s fascination with the potential of the renewable energy sector soon had him reading up on generation and storage opportunities by night. He envisaged ubitricity’s idea as well as the technical and commercial concepts in 2007 and founded the company with his friend and colleague Frank Pawlitschek in 2008. At ubitricity, Knut directs and instructs the implementation of the ubitricity concept and develops future co-operations and market models connected to his company’s concept. Knut also has a strong technical background and envisioned important parts of ubitricity’s mobile metering system.

    • Christoph Ostermann is Co-Founder of the Prosol Invest Group, being with its Solar Battery product range one of the pioneers in the residential battery storage market. Solar Battery is a highly innovative, intelligent battery system offering much more than just an energy storage solution. The system comprises several added value features such as smart home, smart meter, PV-monitoring and UPS. Since its market launch in early 2011 several hundreds of Solar Batteries have been sold only in Germany. Christoph began his career with KMC Management Consultants, a leading management consulting firm focused on sales and marketing expertise, where he was Managing Partner and Co-Founder of a branch office. Since 2005 he is in the renewable energy business, where he has been involved in several companies as CEO, entrepreneur and/or consultant. Christoph graduated in 1997 with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Bayreuth.

    • Dr. Felix Grolman provides his long-term experience in the financial and structuring world to Grundgrün Energie. After degrees both in law and economics he worked in Sales & Trading at Morgan Stanley and then with Boston Consulting Group where he advised energy utilities and trading groups. Subsequently he has founded multiple companies in the realm of renewable energies. The growing importance of energy and power generation turned him into an active supporter of the renewable concept years ago. Having worked in the UK, Spain, Switzerland and China he thoroughly believes in the competitive edge of Germany in the energy sector and is excited to grow Grundgrün in his home market and beyond. His objective is to make renewable energy economically independent and profitable – a goal he wants to reach with Grundgrün as an integrated renewable energy utility.
